Consumers High on HD, Not on 3D

ORC found 62 percent of U.S. households have HDTVs and another 12 percent plan to buy one within the next two years. However, when asked about 3D, only five percent plan to buy a compatible set in the next two years. Awareness isn't the problem--in the wake of Avatar, 60 percent have heard of 3D technology.
Among TV brands, Sony was the clear winner with 43 percent ("on an unaided basis," notes ORC). The runners up are Samsung (11 percent), Panasonic (5 percent), and Vizio (4 percent). At 3 percent or less were Philips, LG, Toshiba, RCA, Sharp, Magnavox, Mitsubishi, JVC, and Zenith.
