This is the first in a series of pictures taken at Verizon's network facility in Waltham, Massachusetts. Visiting journalists got a look at how Verizon's FiOS network technology works. Verizon is starting to roll out a fiber-optic-based network that brings high-bandwidth fiber connections right up to the home. It's rather expensive and no one else is coming close to matching it (except maybe AT&T, with a fiber/copper hybrid using IPTV with lesser bandwidth). In this pic, first in the series, Bill Garrett, Verizon's director of technology for broadband services, with a diagram of how a fiber-optic feed spreads through the house via existing wiring of various types.
