Silicon Optix was demonstrating the 1080p HD beta version of its renowned HQV Benchmark disc with deintlacing, scaling and other various torture tests for displays. On top of that, select memebers of the press, including yours truly were given copies that we can run the tests on our HD DVD players and displays upon returning home.

While many of the tried and true tests from the DVD version are ported over, a very effective addition is a 3/2 pulldown test that SO tells us evaluates whether a 1080i display is deinterlacing and processing at full 1080i or upconverting from each 540p frame and throwing away resolution.

Silicon Optix will be taking feedback from the press and adding tests and will also come out with a Blu-ray version we can use to test players and displays on that that format. The disc will eventually be available for sale at www.hqv.com, so look for us to comment further on the disc and perhaps buy your own copy so you can see what we see when we review sources and displays!
