The Cambridge can cross-convert from a component input to an HDMI output, but it performs no other video processing—that is, it does not deinterlace sources or alter their native resolution. The only tests shown in the chart were performed in both 1080i and 1080p for the Digital tests and in 1080i only for the Analog. (Like Blu-ray players in general, the OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray player used in our tests will not output 1080p on component.) The Cambridge failed to go above white or below black (Video Clipping) in Analog, but it passed all other applicable tests. On two occasions, it locked on to the HDMI source in the wrong color space for no discernible reason, which resulted in a bright-pink picture. Unplugging and then replugging the HDMI connection cleared the problem.—TJN
